Currently, Penn Medicine has protocols in place to maximize the safety of all who enter our hospitals and facilities. We will continue to provide updates as we amend our guidelines. We encourage you to reach out to your healthcare provider to determine your best options, including telemedicine visits, which allow you to receive care with your phone or computer from the comfort and safety of your home.

In-Person Doctor's Appointments and Consultations

At Penn Medicine, the care you receive and staff you see at your appointments is the same as it was before the pandemic, but the processes are a little different. That's because we have visitor guidelines and safety policies in place at our hospitals and practices to protect you and our staff.

  1. If you need a support person to accompany you to your office visit, we recommend that you bring only one person, but will allow up to two people to accompany you if necessary.
  2. Please do not bring children with you unless necessary. If your visit is in a hospital building, no children are permitted. If your visit includes a medical procedure or a test (i.e., ultrasound, mammogram, MRI, etc.), another adult must come with you to watch your child while you are occupied. 
  3. For appointments on or after Monday, May 13, 2024, masking is optional in our facilities given low community rates of COVID and other respiratory viruses. We encourage patients who are immunocompromised to continue to wear masks in all of our facilities for additional protection. Any patient or visitor with respiratory symptoms must wear a surgical mask at all times.  Please review our current masking guidelines. 
  4. We've reorganized our waiting rooms and patient care areas to maximize physical distancing. Please socially distance from others as much as possible.
  5. We've added more self-services to the MyChart by myPennMedicine patient portal, so you don't need to have as much contact with others. We've transitioned check-in for outpatient appointments to MyChart by myPennMedicine through the Pre Check-In feature. Telemedicine Appointments

For many patients, a phone or video visit is still the most appropriate way to see your Penn Medicine physician. We are offering virtual visits for a variety of services, certain new patient appointments and follow-up care.

If you have a MyChart by myPennMedicine account, you can schedule telemedicine appointments with a primary care or urgent care provider directly online yourself. 

Surgeries and Procedures

Radiology Services

Hours vary by location and are updated regularly. Please visit the Radiology page for the most up-to-date information and to make an appointment.

Lab Services 

If you have a MyChart by myPennMedicine account, you can schedule routine lab work online in the patient portal yourself.

If you require urgent testing, please follow our updated guidelines for Outpatient Labs.

Updated hours and closures are also available for Chester County Hospital, Lancaster General Health and Princeton Heath lab locations.
