Breast Cancer Support Services at the Abramson Cancer Center

Patient and family cancer support is an important part of our breast cancer program. We connect you with appropriate resources both within our program and out in the community. The Abramson Cancer Center offers many support services designed for breast cancer patients, including:

  • Breast cancer support groups: Our cancer support groups and workshops connect you with other women diagnosed with breast cancer, providing education and peer support to help you cope with the disease.
  • Boutique services: Our cancer center boutique services include post-breast surgery bra fittings and wig services at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine and Pennsylvania Hospital, which will help you feel comfortable after your breast cancer treatment. Our certified mastectomy fitters offer a personalized experience.
  • Nutritional counseling: Our registered dieticians specialize in cancer nutrition counseling and offer individualized dietary support for both you and your family.
  • Oncology nurse navigators: Our oncology social workers help you and your family address challenges that may accompany your breast cancer diagnosis. Those challenges may be financial, emotional or legal. When needed, we connect you to resources in the community.
  • Patient and family counseling: To help you cope with the stresses of your cancer experience, we provide psychiatric evaluation, treatment and patient and family counseling to you and your loved ones.
  • Fertility preservation services: Our Fertility Preservation Program offers advanced reproductive technologies to help you get pregnant after breast cancer treatment. Our services include egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation), ovarian tissue banking, embryo cryopreservation and sperm banking.

Oncology-Certified Nurse Navigators

We understand that breast cancer care includes many moving parts. To help you manage your care, our oncology nurse and patient navigators offer personalized guidance and one-on-one consultation after your breast cancer diagnosis. They educate you about breast cancer, explain the process at the Abramson Cancer Center and may help coordinate the next steps of your care.

Oncology-certified navigators can assist you at all Abramson Cancer Center locations. Select locations offer nurse navigators who are certified in breast cancer navigation and work exclusively with breast cancer patients.

We understand that life after breast cancer is another step in the cancer journey. The Abramson Cancer Center cancer survivorship program focuses on helping all cancer survivors live healthy lives. We also offer specific support services for breast cancer survivors:

  • Long Term Breast Follow-Up Clinic: Specialized nurse practitioners at various locations help you manage survivorship issues after breast cancer. We provide yearly screenings, ongoing surveillance and personalized guidance. When necessary, we coordinate with your oncologist and surgeon to get you seen quickly.
  • Strength After Breast Cancer: This program helps you get your strength and energy back through physical therapy for oncology rehabilitation after your treatment is complete. We deliver personalized assessments and exercise programs. Our physical therapists educate you about lymphedema (chronic swelling) and provide methods for risk reduction and control.
  • 2-PREVENT Breast Cancer Translational Center of Excellence: Our innovative center is the only program in the country dedicated to research for breast cancer recurrence. We provide personalized evaluation and care for breast cancer survivors to address concerns about treatment side effects that may arise after breast cancer treatment.
  • Unite for HER Virtual Wellness Days: Ask your care team about participating in a free, interactive virtual wellness day during your treatment. During this afternoon, the team will share the benefits of integrative therapies with the intention to educate, empower and restore you. Learn more by asking your care team or apply here.
