Essential Tremor (ET) is a common movement disorder caused by lesions in the thalamus that affects approximately 10 million individuals in the United States.

At the Penn Center for Functional and Restorative Neurosurgery, Penn neurosurgeons are pioneering the use of focused ultrasound in the Philadelphia region as a non-invasive alternative to traditional surgery for ET. Focused ultrasound is a newer technology that offers a noninvasive alternative to traditional surgery, as it is MR-guided and requires no incisions or craniotomy.
