Treatments and Services Offered by the Integrated Breast Center

In addition to breast cancer treatment, we offer a variety of supportive services to meet the needs of newly diagnosed breast cancer patients as well as those who have already undergone breast surgery.

Pennsylvania Hospital Center for Breast Imaging

The Center for Breast Imaging provides breast imaging services like screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and interventional biopsy options. Results from all studies performed at the Center for Breast Imaging are promptly provided to each patient by the referring physician.

All newly diagnosed cases are reviewed at a weekly breast conference with this team. At this meeting, the full group discusses the diagnosis and staging of the disease and treatment recommendations for each individual patient. This approach ensures you receive the benefit of multiple opinions and team input.

Cancer Risk Evaluation Program

Through the Cancer Risk Evaluation Program, our physicians and genetic counselors help you understand risk factors; review your family history, medical history and lifestyle risk factors that may predispose you to cancer. They will discuss genetic testing, assist in your decision about this option and outline a plan for continued monitoring and cancer prevention therapy to help protect your health.

The program also provides information for individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and want to know about the role of genetics in their diagnosis.

Supportive Care

The Joan Karnell Supportive Care Program at Pennsylvania Hospital offers breast cancer support services that help you and your family cope with the physical and emotional distress caused by a cancer diagnosis and treatment. We believe that supportive care is the essence of compassionate cancer care. Support comes in a variety of shapes and sizes to match your needs and concerns as you work to combat cancer. The less distress you have, the more energy you can direct toward recovery.

Our team includes professionals from medicine, nursing, social work, psychology, nutrition, massage therapy, art therapy, pastoral care, and other professional disciplines. These services are available to all patients, from the point of diagnosis.
