Sterile processing technician Miles James has a positive and calm way of looking at the world. He approaches each task without complaint or negativity and is always willing to help new students and employees with their training, said Ashlyn Bordo CRCST, CIS, CER, supervisor of Sterile Processing at the PCAM SurgiCenter.

“He not only does his assignments, but will help out in any other area if it's needed, without being asked,” Bordo added. “He also takes constructive criticism well, although it isn't often he needs it.”

The PCAM SurgiCenter is located across from the main Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) on 34th and Spruce. The sterile processing technicians are responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing the instruments and some equipment used for surgeries, ensuring the tools are clean, sharp, and safe for patients.

James came to the team in February 2021 during a school externship and joined full-time in May 2022. He said he enjoys working in his hometown and is inspired “to be an example and difference maker for young men, setting positive examples of what it means to be in a position of success and change.” He said he enjoys finding ways to reduce stress levels among his peers, believing that “our issues are never as complicated as they appear.”
