Each day at work, Elsie Wright of Patient Transport stands in the Ravdin Lobby, consistently greeting everyone who passes her with a “warm welcome or a generous good bye,” said Shirley Wright (no relation), operations manager of Patient Transport. In spite of the constant flow of patients, staff and visitors, though, she keeps an alert eye for situations that might need her assistance.

One such event happened when Elsie noticed an elderly patient from the Forward Flow Department of the ED who was waiting in a wheelchair for a patient pick-up cab to arrive and bring him home. Wright realized that it was taking unusually long and notified Kimberly Jackson, an ED technician, that her patient was still awaiting his cab.

“A huge thank you to Elsie,” Jackson said, for her vigilance in recognizing the situation. “Elsie made sure he was her priority as she does with her main lobby patients and visitors. I know that the main lobby can get overwhelming and her vigilance and knowing her area is highly appreciated. She is a team player with excellent work ethics!”

At Penn Medicine, we all aspire to be Difference Makers who represent the Penn Medicine Experience (PMX) in action. PMX sets a consistent standard across all of our entities and work locations to make every touchpoint an opportunity to build enduring connections with patients, families, visitors ad colleagues, which is a foundational part of the UPHS Success Share Program.
