The Clyde F. Barker Penn Transplant House became even more welcoming this summer, thanks to a significant “face lift” to its front yard. The landscaping upgrade included expanding its plant and flower beds, enhancing the lighting, and putting in additional seating for guests. Along with huge pots filled with seasonal flowers and hydrangeas, this new look provides an “escape” from city life, bringing home a little closer for the transplant families and patients who stay there.

According to Kirsten King, manager of Operations, nearly 2,200 families have stayed there since it opened in 2011. While it’s convenient to HUP and other amenities, what many families recognize – in their feedback – is the warm and welcoming environment:

  • “We love and appreciate everyone there. I don’t know what we would do without our ‘home away from home’ at Penn.”
  • “As always, staying at the Transplant House is both welcoming and comforting for our family.”
  • “The transplant house is a gift.”
