Nursing is a team effort. Like a well-oiled machine, the nursing staff on each unit work together to ensure that all patients receive the care and compassion they need. Each year, the DAISY Team Award recognizes one exceptional team that truly represents the extraordinary patient-centered care exhibited by nurses every day. This year, the honor went to the staff of
Founders 12, a General Medicine unit.
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award was created in memory of a young man who died of complications of an auto-immune disease in order to recognize the compassion and kindness his nurses brought bedside, day in and day out. This year, 27 different teams throughout HUP received 143 nominations from patients and families.
Excerpts from the twelve nominations that Founders 12 received noted:
- “The nursing care at Penn is nothing short of extraordinary. The bedside manner is knowledgeable, calm, and assuring.”
- “The nurses’ care and professionalism exceeded our expectations. Most noteworthy was the compassion and ‘listening ear’ each individual had.”
- “They came in each day smiling and ready to do anything to improve my comfort and stay.”
“We work so well together,” nurse manager Nicole Nolte, MSN, told her staff at the presentation. “I am so proud of you. Keep up the great work!”
