PHILADELPHIA – Penn Medicine’s Information Services organization has been awarded the Most Wired Award by Health & Hospital Networks for the ninth time in the past decade. This award is presented only to health systems that have set the benchmark for technology use in healthcare, thus reaffirming the success of the Information Services team in adopting ever-advancing technologies and solidifying Penn Medicine’s place as a leader in the healthcare IT field.

“Penn Medicine’s attainment of the 2017 Most Wired Award further supports the organization’s belief that advancements in patient care and research can be enabled by leveraging information technology assets across the enterprise,” said Michael Restuccia, vice president and chief information officer for the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

The annual Most Wired survey is designed to measure the level of information technology implementation in hospitals and health systems across the United States. The 2017 survey was the most streamlined yet, and featured an increased emphasis on how security, home-monitoring, and smart technologies improve not only patient safety and quality of care, but clinician workflow as well. Each participating organization is provided a customized analysis of their IT operations from H&HN that functions as a strategic roadmap for health system leadership.

By embracing emerging technologies throughout the health system, Penn Medicine continues to serve as a standard for excellence in each of the survey’s four analytic areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, quality and safety (inpatient and outpatient), and clinical integration. Restuccia noted that the recent integration of ambulatory, inpatient, and homecare patient records in each area of the health system is a particularly significant example of Penn Medicine’s dedication to “teamwork and collaboration amongst all the members of the community for the betterment of our patients and clinicians.”

Winners will be recognized during the Health Forum and American Hospital Association Leadership Summit Activities from July 27 through July 29 in San Diego, California. Keynote speaker, Rana Foroohar, global business columnist and associate editor at The Financial Times and global economic analyst at CNN, will present the awards.

Detailed results of the 2017 survey and study can be found in the July issue of H&HN magazine. For a full list of winners, visit www.hhnmag.com/.
