Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health created a $1.2M endowment fund in conjunction with the LG Health Foundation to help ensure that no patient will miss out on necessary breast screenings or care due to an inability to pay.

The fund was developed in September, thanks to a generous community donor who wishes to remain anonymous.

LG Health has a long-standing commitment to offering no-cost preventive screening mammograms to eligible women through state-funded programs and community partners, such as Help the Fight.

“I have always believed that patients should not have a financial impediment to vital breast health screening and diagnostic services. Women who undergo regular screening mammograms can benefit from earlier detection of breast cancer and therefore achieve better prognosis and outcomes,” said Nitin K. Tanna, MD, a radiologist at Lancaster Radiology Associates and chief of mammography and breast imaging services at LG Health.

“The endowment fund will allow us to expand access when our patients may have higher financial need due to layoffs, loss of insurance, or other financial hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath,” Dr. Tanna added.
