Kathy Haines, RN, Centralized Monitoring Unit, and Eva Lenker, RN, Behavioral Health Emergency, presented at the American Psychiatric Nurses Association 33rd Annual Conference in October in New Orleans, Louisiana. After being reviewed by a panel of psychiatric-mental health nursing experts, Haines’ and Lenker’s abstracts were among 224 others accepted for the national conference. The abstracts were titled “Using De-escalation Training and Screening Tools as a Method to Reduce Seclusion and Restraint Use in the Behavioral Health Setting, While Maintaining Safety for Both Patients and Staff ” and “Improving Outcomes of Behavioral Health Patients with Nurse Driven Guidelines for Standardization of Care,” respectively.
