During the October ceremony, attendees read individual stories located throughout the exhibit.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness month, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health featured a traveling Silent Witness Exhibit during the month of October at Suburban Pavilion, in Lancaster. This is the 10th year that LG Health has hosted the traveling display that honors women, men and children killed in acts of domestic violence. During a special ceremony, the exhibit was unveiled and representatives from the medical, criminal justice and victim services fields shared the importance of education and support. In addition, the names and ages of the victims honored in the Silent Witness exhibit were read aloud.

“When you read the stories and see the faces, it really helps those currently experiencing domestic violence know that they aren’t alone and that there are resources available to help protect their lives and the lives of their children," said Mary Steffy, manager of Education and Wellness for women and children at LG Health.

The memorial included life-size wooden figures that shared victims’ stories and photos, representing those who have died in Lancaster County as a result of domestic violence. “The reason we host this exhibit each year is to promote the need for social change,” she said. “Research shows that one in four women and one in seven men are impacted by domestic violence. Our goal is to encourage victims of domestic violence to seek help in a safe, supportive environment.
