Ene Belleh, MLS, AHIP, welcomes staff to the new library during the grand opening celebration.

If Pennsylvania Hospital’s historic library gives you Beauty and the Beast vibes, rest assured that a modern, medically-inclined Belle would be equally comfortable in PAH’s newly renovated clinical library.

The calming space aims to serve as both an educational center and relaxing retreat where staff can pop in for a moment to breathe. Staff members were recently invited to check out the new space during an open house, as well as to meet the new clinical information librarian, Ene Belleh, MLS, AHIP.

Located on the third floor of the historic Pine Building, the library is flooded with natural light and offers cozy seating and a view of the William Penn statue on the Pine Building’s front lawn.

“We have four available, upgraded work stations, each with a brand new computer, and there is also a sitting area for staff to read or work on their own laptops or tablets,” Belleh said. “It’s just very quiet, comfortable, welcoming space.”

Talk about a 'reading rainbow'!

Belleh arrived at PAH after ten years at the Christiana Care Health System. As a clinical information librarian and a senior member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals, her goal is to partner with clinical staff to build evidence-based practice capacity, which ultimately impacts patient care decision-making. Belleh is excited to take on a new challenge and combine her specialized knowledge with Pennsy’s dedication to excellent patient care.

“As a clinical librarian, I support patient care through evidence-based research,” Belleh said. “I serve as a resource for our clinicians. So, if a doctor wanted to confirm their treatment or to revise their diagnosis, they could call me. Or if a nurse wanted support for updating their guidelines and protocols, they could call me.”

Over the next few months, Belleh plans to update the collection so clinicians can make better use of the collection, and she hopes to organize a few outreach events to promote the library and its services. Stay tuned!
