Injured Philadelphia firefighter Randy Ballinger is lifted into an ambulance for transport home, while two lines of first responders clap in support.

Injured Philadelphia firefighter Randy Ballinger was released from Presby in March to a crowd of supporters – including first responders and members of his care team – after falling from the roof of a rowhome while fighting a fire in February. The trauma team treated him for multiple injuries including a concussion, torn aorta, collapsed lung, broken ribs, and several other fractures.

“Mr. Ballinger had a great spirit and it was a pleasure to assist with his care and recovery,” said trauma nurse practitioner Cheryl Scholler, CRNP, who cared for him throughout his stay on PPMC’s ortho-trauma medical surgical unit. “My significant other is a professional firefighter and I have many family members and close friends who are firefighters, so firefighters hold a special place in my heart. I wish him a speedy recovery and pray for him and all first responders to remain safe while providing service to our communities.”
