Bob Russell headshotEven while Penn Presbyterian Medical Center has adapted to the challenges of COVID-19, operated busy testing sites across the city, and administered vaccines as quickly as possible, we have not lost sight of the strategic goals we set before the pandemic. We have made great strides to improve our quality and safety metrics, enhance patient progression, and boost patient satisfaction. We have also continued to manage our growth on campus and beyond.

For example, after our skilled nursing facility moved to Rittenhouse, we added 18 new beds to 4 Scheie. Looking ahead, we also plan to build additional bays in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, add more chairs and exam rooms to our infusion center, and continue zoning work with the city to complete the parking garage project. In April, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania’s Urogynecology program and PEACE program, which offers family planning and pregnancy loss services, will both relocate to PMUC. Our cancer center in Sewell, N.J., is also undergoing renovations, and the infusion suite will expand by more than 7,000 square feet this spring.

Our staff members are key to the success of all of these exciting projects, and I’m very grateful for your continued patience and flexibility. On a personal note, I would like to acknowledge the incredible esprit de corps that PPMC possesses. Prior to COVID-19, if you had asked me how would PPMC would fare in a pandemic, I would have said, “We’ll step up and handle it.” But our team has exceeded every expectation. The last year has been difficult for us all, but the commitment and resilience shown by our staff have energized and inspired me. I couldn't be more proud to work with everyone at PPMC to meet the challenges ahead.
