Last month’s Penn Medicine Experience (PMX) Week celebrations at PPMC provided staff with the opportunity to celebrate team accomplishments, recognize the advances in care, quality, and safety made possible by staff in every corner of the hospital, and renew their commitment to keeping the BE Standards in mind during interactions with patients, family members, and colleagues alike.

As a thank you for each staff member’s dedication to making the Penn Medicine Experience the best it can be, assistant executive director Ryan Dougherty, MBA, RN, and the PMX Week Committee assembled an exciting schedule of “feel-good” events and activities ranging from an early morning continental breakfast served by PPMC leadership to visits from the Presby Pooches and the Singing City Choir. An aromatherapy session taught participants how the complementary therapy can help relieve pain, stress, and poor sleep, and a workshop led by Penn Medicine Academy emphasized the role the BE Standards in creating a consistently excellent Penn Medicine Experience. For staff at Penn Medicine University City (PMUC), a seasonal health workshop and lunchtime yoga were also on the schedule.

“This year, we focused on employee feedback and created a streamlined schedule that reflected staff favorites and ensured our PPMC, PMUC, and CPUP colleagues could all enjoy the PMX Week activities and recognize each other’s successes,” Dougherty said. “For example, the photo booth that we set up in the cafeteria was a great way to give staff the chance to see the different teams they work with shown on the screens and to promote collaboration and inter-departmental appreciation.”

As the week came to a close, the PMX Week Committee and the Patient & Guest Relations team invited members of the hospital community to the 10th Annual Patient Advocacy Awards to celebrate 12 patient advocates who had been recognized by their peers for their commitment to patient- and family-centered care and for consistently going above and beyond.

Thank you to everyone who made this year’s PMX Week such a great success, and for showing such commitment and enthusiasm to the Penn Medicine Experience and the BE Standards all year round.
