Carol Norris-Smith, vice president for marketing and public affairs at Penn Medicine Princeton Health.
Carol Norris-Smith, vice president of marketing and public affairs, is among the honorees at this year’s Top Women in Communications Awards, which are presented annually by Ragan Communications to spotlight communicators who advance the profession and accelerate growth for their organizations.
Norris-Smith is an honoree in the Crisis Navigator category, recognizing her leadership in directing a broad strategy for communicating with Princeton Health staff, patients, and the greater community about topics related to COVID-19. The strategy included using Princeton Health’s existing resources – such as the website, social media channels, email marketing systems, and a consumer magazine – to amplify crucial messages related to safety precautions and promote vaccination.
The larger strategy transcended communications to include Princeton Health Community Wellness – which Norris-Smith oversees – forging partnerships with school districts and universities, community-based nonprofits, Mercer County, N.J. government agencies, and the Trenton Thunder baseball team to provide free, easily accessible vaccine events across the region.
The Top Women in Communications Awards ceremony will be held June 16 in New York City.
“I will be accepting this award on behalf of our wonderful team here,” Norris-Smith said in an email to her staff members. “Every single one of you played – and continue to play – a critical role in our COVID-19 communications. This is truly a team effort.”
