The Center for Digestive Health at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center (PMC) was honored by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) for its commitment to providing safe, high-quality patient care.
The Center for Digestive Health is one of 18 facilities in New Jersey and 404 nationwide honored through the ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program. Founded in 1941, the ASGE is dedicated to advancing patient care by promoting excellence and innovation in gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Certification through the ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program is based on a unit’s commitment to specialized training and adherence to ASGE guidelines on privileging, quality assurance and reprocessing as well as the infection control guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Anish Sheth, MD, who serves as co-medical director of the center along with Eric Shen, MD, said the ASGE recognition serves as a symbol that the Center for Digestive Health is dedicated to best practices and the highest standards of patient care.
“Endoscopy is fundamental to what we do here,” Sheth said. “It is an important diagnostic tool and is also used in advanced treatments for a wide range of conditions, including many types of cancer. The fact that we earned this recognition sends an important message to our patients that they can trust in the quality of care that we provide.”
“We’ve always taken pride in knowing that our community has access to cutting-edge technologies and procedures that are performed in a safe, patient-friendly environment,” Shen stated. “This certification is evidence that our efforts in making the Center for Digestive Health the premiere location for gastrointestinal care are being recognized.”
Endoscopies scheduled through the Center for Digestive Health are performed in the Stephen & Roxanne Distler Center for Ambulatory Surgery.
“The nursing staff contributes to the high quality of care through a commitment to excellence, teamwork and patient-centered care,” said Ellen Kenny, nurse manager of the surgery center. “Many of the nurses maintain GI certification, which allows us to stay up-to-date with the most current technology.”
