8486Each year, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center is fortunate to bestow upon select faculty members grants from the Bach Fund, a trust created through the Estate of Jeanette Bach Tashjian. Grants, available for use by members of PPMC staff, are allocated to support as many worthwhile projects as possible, up to $40,000 annually.

In 2013, the Bach Fund awarded six grants, and last month, five of the awardees gathered in the rotunda to present posters on their projects that were supported by those grants. Congratulations to all of the recipients! Projects represented were:

  • Judith O’Donnell, MD, and Russell Huffman, MD, MPH: “Pilot Study to Evaluate the Bacterial Diversity of the Shoulder Joint During Revision Arthoscopy: Microbial Genomies vs. Standard Care Cultures”
  • Laura Kosseim, MD, and Eric Hume, MD: “Pre-Operative Screening for Sleep Apnea in Patients Undergoing Hip or Knee Arthroplasty”
  • Andrea Apter, MD, MSC, and Rodalyn Gonzalez, BA: “Determining Patients’ Ease in Using the Patient Portal for Communication with Providers and Accessing Health Care”
  • David Nicklin, MD: “Point of Care Ultrasound for Clinical Care and Resident Education in Family Medicine at UPHS”
  • PPMC Hip & Knee Joint Replacement Service: “Collection of Patient Reported Outcomes, Joint Outcomes and Implant Data in a PPMC Joint Registry to Support Joint Arthroplasty
