Home IV therapy you can rely on
You can get many intravenous (IV) medications without having to travel to an infusion center. Known as home infusion therapy, this service involves a nurse coming to your home and giving your medication through a vein.
At Penn Medicine, we offer home infusion therapy throughout the southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey area. Our infusion specialists are dedicated to compassionate care and clinical excellence. We’re accredited by The Joint Commission, a distinction that shows our rigorous quality and safety standards for our patients.
Home infusion therapy from experts at Penn Medicine
We send your medication and all needed equipment and supplies to your home. Getting your infusion at home means you can relax during treatment, whether you want to read a book, watch TV, or call a friend.
Highlights of our program include:
Our nurses have extensive training to ensure your safety and comfort. Our clinical pharmacists are available 24 hours a day to monitor your status and make sure your treatment is working well.
As part of Penn Medicine at Home, we coordinate with other programs, such as Home Health and Palliative Care, to provide you with all the care you need.
In some cases, your nurse may teach you or your caregiver how to administer your medication on your own. We provide an easy-to-read visual training guide tailored to your condition and needs. Our goal is to educate you and your caregivers on proper care techniques, so you feel empowered about your treatment.
Our in-house infusion therapy pharmacy allows us to quickly and safely deliver your medication and medical supplies. You can trust your medications and medical supplies will be delivered in time for your next infusion. Emergency pharmacy services are available 24/7.
Your doctor can refer you for home infusion therapy by calling 866-888-8598. A nurse will walk them through the process and make sure they have all the needed information.
Home IV therapy: What to expect
Once we get your physician’s referral, we contact you to determine a convenient treatment schedule. Our team coordinates insurance coverage and ships your medication and supplies to your home. We explain how to properly store your medication and supplies.
Before your first in-home infusion, a nurse will call you to explain what to expect. On the day of your infusion, your nurse will stay with you during your treatment. Depending on your medication, they may be able to show you how to administer the infusion yourself.
Our team is always available to answer your questions or concerns. We stay in touch with your doctor to provide updates on your treatment and make any needed adjustments to your care plan.
