The wife of a former Cath Lab patient was so impressed by the care her husband received recently that she designated Pete Schiavo, a hemostasis tech, as a “Health Care Hero.”
The patient’s wife, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated a monetary gift to PAH in honor of Pete. She wrote: “Pete kept my husband’s spirits up during a very scary and stressful time after his two stent procedures. My husband appreciated Pete’s humor and good spirits during his stay at Pennsylvania Hospital.”
“Pete is a shining example of why our patients keep coming back to Pennsylvania Hospital,” said Danielle Heffner, MHA, BBA, director of Cardiology Services. “Just a couple of weeks ago, a Cath Lab patient and her mother visited the Patient and Guest Relations office immediately following her discharge to relay their compliments about Pete, who had provided care for the patient directly following her procedure,” explained Danielle. “The patient and her mother said that Pete showed an extraordinary amount of care and ‘treated her (the patient) like she was his own daughter.’ They added that his kindness and consideration gave their family a great sense of confidence in the Hospital overall and they requested that Pete be commended for his excellent care.”
Special thanks to Pete for providing a shining example of how much one employee can contribute to making PAH a patient’s hospital of choice.
