Coronavirus Information from Penn Obstetrics

Obstetrical providers across the health system have been working from the beginning of the epidemic to make sure that we are able to continue to provide care to our patients that is personal, based on good science, and meets the high standards we have for care at Penn. We have many processes in place to make sure the birth of your child is safe and special.

Appointments and Procedures: How We're Keeping You Safe

At Penn Medicine, our highest priority is making sure you get the care you need, when you need it, in the safest way possible.

We've implemented new safety protocols for in-person appointments and procedures. We are continually evaluating patient care to improve treatment and reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19.

We also have answers to frequently asked questions about COVID-19, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and how you can help keep your baby safe.

Penn obstetricians and nurse midwives deliver more than 9,000 babies each year at Pennsylvania Hospital (PAH) and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP)  — more than any other hospital in Philadelphia.

And in clinical care, volume matters. Our high number of deliveries helps ensure we’re prepared to help you through your pregnancy, labor and delivery, no matter how complex each stage may be.

In recognition of our commitment to extraordinary care for mothers and babies, Pennsylvania Hospital earned Perinatal Care Certification from the Joint Commission. We were the first in the region to receive that certification, which is considered the gold standard in health care.

Before, during and after your pregnancy, we offer programs and services at both HUP and PAH that focus on the health and well-being of you and your baby.
