Setting the highest standards with specialized pregnancy health care services

When you’re expecting, nothing matters more than a healthy pregnancy for you and your baby. Families who receive maternity care at Penn Medicine can expect:

  • Expertise from obstetrics teams that manage thousands of pregnancies and deliveries each year
  • Exceptional care for parents and babies at hospitals that earned the Perinatal Care Certification from the Joint Commission; fewer than 60 hospitals nationwide have this distinction
  • Choice in maternity care options, including obstetricians, certified nurse midwives, and doulas
  • Five state-of-the-art birthing hospitals to choose from

Whether you have a routine or high-risk pregnancy needing prenatal monitoring and care for complex conditions, you are supported by experienced OB/GYN specialists and nurses. Our approach to care means you have access to experts across all disciplines within our system. Should you need specialized care, we’ll guide you to the appropriate provider and coordinate your care with them.

Exceptional labor and delivery support at our birthing hospitals

We know that choice matters in where and how you deliver your baby. Across our entire system of hospitals, we offer complete care that includes private birthing suites, support for high-risk pregnancies, and critical neonatal care for premature and high-risk newborns.

Our anesthesiologists offer a full range of pain management options. If it’s safe for both you and your baby, we can also support you through a more natural childbirth with fewer interventions. All our hospitals are fully equipped with state-of-the-art operating rooms for cesarean sections. You also receive breastfeeding support from our lactation consultants and postpartum care from our team of nurses.

In addition, each hospital offers a wide range of childbirth and parenting classes. They’re designed to prepare you for labor and delivery and teach you how to care for your baby.
