Strength, support, and a plan that’s right for you

For more than 50 years, Princeton House has guided adults in New Jersey through the challenges of mental health and addiction. Our supportive team of providers (psychiatrists and advanced practice nurses), nurses, therapists, and addiction counselors work together and with you to understand your needs and design a treatment plan that supports your recovery and well-being.

Treatment looks different for everyone, which is why we offer several levels of care. Some people begin with inpatient treatment for stabilization or withdrawal management, while others enter our partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient programs. Wherever you start, we’ll guide you through the next steps and connect you with resources that help you stay supported after treatment.

We involve families whenever possible, offering education and guidance toward better understanding and support. Because trauma often plays a role in mental health and substance use struggles, we also provide dedicated trauma programs for men and women. These programs offer a safe space to process difficult experiences, build healthier coping skills, and take meaningful steps toward recovery.

Structured day and half-day programs

We offer two levels of outpatient care to meet you where you are on your recovery journey. Programs are customized to meet your needs and involve various care options, including group therapy, group education, medication management, family support and education, and expressive therapies like art, yoga, and writing.

Partial hospitalization program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) usually involves five days of treatment per week, for six hours each day, usually for about two weeks. For many people, partial hospitalization is a bridge between inpatient treatment and intensive outpatient treatment. Patients return home or to a recovery house each evening. We provide lunch for full-day programs. In some areas, no-cost transportation may be available.

Intensive outpatient program

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) typically involves treatment for three hours a day, three or four days per week. On average, our IOP programs are six to eight weeks. An IOP is ideal for people who have completed an inpatient or PHP program but still need more structure than traditional outpatient therapy provides. The half-day schedules of our IOP programs allow you to attend to responsibilities at home.
