The Pharmacy Residency program hosted its 10th annual graduation in June. Initially starting the program with only two residents in 2012, the one-year program has now expanded to six residents who have gained hands-on learning experience in various pharmaceutical areas of practice, such as dosing and monitoring medications for patients, along with operations and management of a pharmacy setting.

“Working alongside the residents and contributing to their learning is one of the most rewarding parts of my role,” said Yogini Patel, PharmD, BCPS, a clinical pharmacist specialist and the residency program director. “We’re here to help them grow and guide them to accomplish their goals as clinicians. It’s exciting to see their personal and professional development from when they first start the program to their graduation.”

At the in-person ceremony, attended by faculty and staff and the residents’ families, each resident received a certificate that validates their completion of the program, along with a congratulatory gift bag. The swag included a PAH t-shirt and Philadelphia memorabilia, such as mugs with iconic city scenes like the LOVE Park sculpture, to remind them of their time at PAH as they venture into the next phases of their careers.

Four of the residents have enrolled in second-year residencies or fellowships at other institutions to continue their education in specialized areas of Pharmacy, while two residents have accepted Infusion Pharmacy positions at other hospitals.

“You can do anything you set your mind to,” said Patel, during her speech at the ceremony. “Make sure you find something you’re passionate about. Do your best and leave the rest.”
