“Nursing is a passion of mine, but dance is also my passion. I’ve taught dance for half of my life. I’ve been a youth leader for 17 years. My dance company, Feet of Faith, was established six years ago. During a time of seclusion due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the increase of violence in Philadelphia, dance has been both a physical and emotional safe haven for many youth. Dance is a creative outlet and it teaches more than just steps; it instills the importance of discipline, accountability, and fortitude. I enjoy touching the lives of children through the art of dance.

NAACP ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics) is a year-long program for high school students who demonstrate academic, scientific, and artistic achievement, allowing them to gain recognition equal to that often achieved by entertainers and athletes. At the end of the year, there are local and national events where students compete for scholarships and other rewards. I was so humbled and excited to be selected to judge this year’s NAACP ACT-SO national dance competition on July 15 in conjunction with the NAACP National Convention in Atlantic City. It was very fulfilling to witness so many passionate and talented kids under one roof. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my experience, time, and talent with them.”
