meg garrett nursing excellence

Meg Garrett, BSN, OCN, and Barbara Prior, MSN, NE-BC, associate executive director of CPUP Clinical Operations.

Last month, the Distinguished Nurse Clinician Academy inducted nine new members into their ranks from throughout Penn Medicine.

The academy was created in 2016 to help spread clinical nursing excellence throughout the Health System as well as into the practices of future nurses. Academy members are chosen for their exceptional clinical knowledge and interprofessional skills as well as a passion for their work.

Congratulations to the following new members from CPUP and HUP:

Meg Garrett, BSN, OCN, of Radiation Oncology

Meg’s nomination packet described her as “the type of nurse patients ask for when returning for follow-up care, even years after initial treatment. She is the ideal employee. She lives the Penn Medicine vision and she does it all with a warm, caring smile.”

Clarice Maggio, BSN, OCN, of the Hematology-Oncology Suite

“Clarice has the clinical expertise to handle any medical scenario thrown at her but, more importantly, she has the ability to bring the most anxious patient to ease, is able to cry with patients going through terminal phases of their disease, and has the compassion to remember to celebrate every patient’s birthday during chemotherapy visits.”
