Our mobile health unit brings low-barrier STI and HIV testing, prevention, and treatment directly to underserved communities across Lancaster, Pennsylvania. By meeting people where they are, we work to reduce barriers to care, support early diagnosis, and connect people to ongoing care.

Our care team

Each visit is staffed by a team that may include:

  • A registered nurse or phlebotomist
  • A physician assistant or physician
  • A social worker

Our services

STI (also known as STD) screening

Comprehensive, no-cost STI testing, with follow-up treatment and care based on clinical presentation, reported exposure, and diagnostic results.

HIV and STI prevention

HIV prevention services, including nPEP and PrEP. Additional prevention options such as doxyPEP are available to eligible patients in accordance with clinical guidelines.

Hepatitis C services

Hepatitis C screening for at-risk populations, with access to treatment through clinic-based services and coordinated follow-up care.

Harm reduction

Harm reduction supplies for community distribution, subject to inventory, including naloxone (Narcan) and fentanyl and xylazine test strips to support community health and safety.

Wound care

Early-intervention wound care for people who inject drugs, including assessment, cleansing, debridement, dressing, infection evaluation, and clinically appropriate triage.

Growing with our communities

This is an evolving effort, built to expand resources to the communities that need them. Our goal is to broaden access to care thoughtfully and sustainably, while keeping services responsive to what each community needs. We are grateful for the longstanding relationships and trust that grassroots organizations have built within the communities they serve, and we seek to strengthen those partnerships through meaningful collaboration.

The clinic behind the unit

The mobile health unit is powered by our Comprehensive Care clinic, a program rooted in Lancaster General Health's family medicine residency since 1999. Our providers are family medicine physicians who are also certified HIV specialists, which means the same expertise that guides care inside the clinic travels with our team into the community.

At the clinic, we offer primary and specialty care for people living with HIV, along with sexual health care, HIV prevention, STI and HIV testing and treatment, and support services that address needs like housing, food, transportation, and access to durable medical equipment.
