Technology and innovation are at the core of The Clifton Center for Medical Breakthroughs design, fulfilling our mission of advancing medical and patient care throughout the region and beyond. The eco-friendly construction, design, and operations plan of The Clifton Center for Medical Breakthroughs fortifies Penn Medicine’s commitment to the environment, with innovations like the re-use of water, 100 percent outside air, and park-like, outdoor green space for patients, families, and staff.
When reimagining how we deliver care, we wanted to ensure that the patient always feels empowered and prioritized. That’s why The Clifton Center for Medical Breakthroughs inpatient rooms offer the latest technology to elevate the patient experience. Smart features include:
- Outside door displays that show clinicians and staff the information they need before entering the room. They provide information related to standard precautions like hearing impairment, required interpreter services, and more.
- IRIS, a large smart TV and interactive care system. The large monitor provides television and entertainment. It can also be used as a digital whiteboard to display patient information, including the name and photo of each member of a patient’s care team, clinical information from PennChart, a patient’s goals for each day, and upcoming consultations. IRIS can adjust lights, window shades, privacy glass, and room temperature.
- MyChart Bedside, a tablet that displays a patient’s care team, upcoming appointments, medication times, visitors, offers questionnaires and educational materials, and houses all patient consent forms.
To help with patient comfort, each patient floor is designed with an “on-stage/off-stage” concept. Patient rooms are around the facility’s perimeter, while medication rooms, supply rooms, and staff spaces are at the core of each floor. The design reduces cart traffic, noise, and interruptions near patient rooms.
Chaplain services are available to all patients, visitors, and employees.
Our chaplains are professionally trained to offer emotional and spiritual support to patients and families from all walks of life. Chaplains are here to listen with compassion and understanding. They help sort through feelings, thoughts and concerns that surface during a hospital stay.
