Kidney Disease, Living Kidney Donor Transplant

Diagnosed at age 13, Christine’s type 1 diabetes destroyed her kidneys. At the 2013 Dash for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness, she talks about her friendship with her living kidney donor and her experience at the Penn Transplant Institute.
After being placed on the waiting list for a new kidney, Christine found herself eager to do more than just wait. She decided to proactively start searching for an altruistic kidney donor. In this video, Christine talks about the living kidney donor match she found and the relationship they have developed since her life-saving kidney transplant five years ago.

The video was filmed at the annual Donor DASH, a run/walk that Christine participated in to honor organ and tissue donors, celebrate organ and tissue recipients and recognize those who continue to wait for a life-saving transplant.
