HUP Pharmacy Residency

Welcome to pharmacy residency training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Pharmacy Residency

Thank you for your interest in the pharmacy residency programs at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). HUP is the largest institution within the University of Pennsylvania Health System (Penn Medicine) and is world-renowned for its clinical and research excellence. We offer a comprehensive pharmacy program with a broad scope of services for all patients, including inpatient, ambulatory, emergency department, and outpatient retail and specialty. The Department of Pharmacy has over 50 years of excellence in residency training, due in large part to the staff and preceptors who dedicate their time to prepare residents to become practitioners capable of excelling in patient care, leadership, teaching, and research.

Our entire department is working together to advance practice and research. Our hospital is continuously growing and expanding its services. In October 2021 we opened our newest building, the Pavilion, which is an innovative 17-story and 1.5 million-square foot hospital facility with 504 beds, 47 operating rooms and a new emergency department. All our leadership team and residency program directors feel truly fortunate to be part of a tremendous team of individuals that make up the Department of Pharmacy Services. This team fosters a wonderful environment enriched with opportunities for pharmacy residency training.

On behalf of the staff of the HUP Department of Pharmacy, we thank you for your interest in our program.

Alison Apple, RPh, MS
