The Office of Academic Affairs oversees a collection of academic programs that help assure a steady supply of qualified physicians and medical professionals for the communities we serve. The office unifies medical education activities at Lancaster General Health, sharing resources and talent, and partnering with other educational institutions to share resources.

Lancaster General Health has a longstanding commitment to graduate and undergraduate medical education. Our first residency began in 1903 as a rotating internship and developed into the current Family Medicine Residency Program in 1969. Today we also offer a Geriatric Fellowship and pharmacy residency program.

We support medical students, physician assistant students, and advanced practice nursing students in completing clerkships (clinical rotations) at Lancaster General Health. Medical schools with which we partner include Temple University’s Lewis Katz School of Medicine, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine.

During clerkships, we provide housing and meals, parking, and lectures to students, as well as clinical experiences designed to meet the curricular objectives of their educational institutions.
