Well-woman care
Partners in your health and wellness, for life
We’re here to help you navigate through life’s phases with preventive health services and medical care tailored to your needs. Our specialists have expertise in every aspect of gynecology care. We understand that health concerns change with age and life events, and we personalize your care accordingly.
Should you need specialized care for any medical conditions, we work with experts across all Penn Medicine disciplines so you receive seamless medical support.
Comprehensive well-woman exams
Our preventive well-woman services are designed to meet your needs throughout all life stages. Personalized wellness screenings include:
Our providers offer compassionate gynecology services for teens and young adults as they begin their well-woman visits. Care may include pelvic exams and Pap tests to check for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), cervical cancer, and other health conditions.
You’re more likely to experience menstrual problems when you’re younger, such as excessively heavy periods, severe cramps, or irregular cycles. We help figure out the cause and get your periods back on track.
We also provide sexual health counseling, guidance on STI prevention, and options for birth control, including emergency contraception. If you plan to start a family, our pregnancy care specialists can help you with pre-pregnancy planning, the pregnancy journey, and postpartum support.
For people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s, we support you as your life and health changes. Well-woman visits include breast exams, pelvic exams, and Pap smears to check for gynecologic cancers. We may recommend screenings based on your age and family history, including mammograms for breast cancer and colonoscopy for colon cancer. Our providers help you prevent STIs and provide treatment if you develop an infection.
We offer family planning services, including birth control options. You have access to pregnancy care and postpartum support, as well as our renowned fertility and reproductive care if you’re facing infertility. Our specialists also diagnose and treat polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), the leading cause of female infertility.
During midlife, you may begin to experience symptoms of perimenopause, the transition to menopause. Our providers help you manage symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats.
After menopause, your risk for certain cancers and health conditions increases. We may recommend you continue to get Pap smears until age 65 to check for cervical cancer. We may also recommend screenings for breast and colon cancer and pelvic exams to check for ovarian cancer through age 75.
The risk of osteoporosis (weakened bones) increases as you age. We may recommend regular bone density screenings, and we’ll provide treatment if needed to keep your bones strong.
