Sexual health and STI prevention
Find expert, compassionate care for all your sexual health needs in a private, supportive environment. At Penn Medicine, we offer screening, prevention, and treatment for STIs, including HIV care, PrEP, and important vaccines.
Total care for your sexual health and well-being
Your sexual health is an important part of your overall well-being. It includes getting tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), taking steps to protect yourself, and getting treatment if you need it. Caring for your sexual health can help prevent infections like HIV and reduce the risk of certain cancers linked to viruses like human papillomavirus (HPV) and hepatitis B (HBV). It’s also a way to protect your partners.
At Penn Medicine, our specialists can explain your options and recommend the right tests, medicines, or vaccines, including those that protect against HPV and HBV.
STI testing, prevention, and treatment all in one place
Penn Medicine specialists provide a full range of sexual health services, from preventative vaccines and medications to education and support. You may also be eligible for DoxyPEP (doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis), an antibiotic taken after sexual activity to help prevent certain STIs like chlamydia and syphilis.
Our services include:
- Screening: Get quick, private tests with clear results.
- Prevention: Learn about safer sex strategies and options like the HPV vaccine.
- Treatment and support: Receive a care plan and ongoing support if you test positive.

Everyone deserves respectful, private care. Our sexual health specialists provide an inclusive, judgment-free space where you can ask questions and get the help you need. We also work closely with experts across Penn Medicine, so you receive seamless medical care that may include contraception counseling, pregnancy testing, or referrals for specialized services.
Through connections to gynecology, colorectal surgery, and other specialists, you have access to routine exams, preventative screenings, and treatment for sexual health concerns at every stage of life. Our team also collaborates with HIV care specialists to provide long-term treatment and support.
Preventative vaccines for STI protection
The HPV vaccine helps protect against human papillomavirus, a common infection that can cause genital warts and sometimes certain cancers. It works best before someone becomes sexually active, but many adults can still benefit. Your coverage may vary depending on your health insurance plan.
Your provider might also suggest vaccines for meningitis, mpox, or hepatitis A or B if you’re at risk.
A safe and effective way to prevent HIV
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a daily pill that helps prevent HIV infection for those at higher risk of being exposed to the virus. When taken correctly, it can lower your chance of getting HIV. Penn Medicine’s PrEP navigators can help you get started and connect you with a provider who can prescribe it. If you need help accessing this medication, a free and confidential hotline is available:
- PrEP hotline: 267-601-5332
- PEP hotline: (for Philadelphia residents only) 833-933-2815
- Lancaster residents: PEP is available at LG Health Comprehensive Care
