Epic Video Client telehealth instructions

Your Penn Medicine provider may use Epic Video Client for your video visit. Use these instructions to access the telehealth platform on your mobile device or desktop.

Telehealth instructions: mobile device

Follow these steps to access your video visit on a mobile device. 

Access your appointment

1. We will send a link to your video visit three days before your appointment and again one day before. You’ll get the link through a text and an email. 

2. When you tap the link, you’ll be sent to MyChart by myPennMedicine. You don’t need an account, but we encourage you to create a MyChart by myPennMedicine account for the best virtual experience.

To prepare for your telehealth visit, select your visit and then “Continue eCheck-in” to start the Pre Check-in process. This step is required to participate in your video visit.

Complete Pre Check-in

You must complete Pre Check-in at least 15 minutes before the start of your telehealth appointment. 

During Pre Check-in, you will: 

  • Verify and update personal, insurance, and health information 
  • Sign consent forms 
  • Pay any outstanding balances 
  • Pay copay, if needed, by entering your credit card information 

You are automatically checked into your telehealth appointment once you complete Pre Check-in. 

Join the video visit 

1. After completing Pre Check-in, tap “Join Video Visit” within your appointment details. The link is active 15 minutes before your appointment time. 

2. When you tap “Join Video Visit,” your device’s default browser will launch.

3. It will ask for camera and microphone access. Tap “Allow” so your provider can see and hear you.

4. Before joining, you can also change the display name that appears, blur your background, or change your video and microphone settings. 

5. When you’re ready, tap “Join Call.” You will join a virtual waiting room.

Navigate the video visit 

1. The signal icon will display the strength of your internet connection. 

2. Tap the three dots on the top left of the screen to view more options. You can change your audio/mic device, blur your background, or switch to full-screen or grid view. 

3. Tap the participants icon to view who’s in the video call.

4. Tap the microphone icon to mute or unmute.

5. Tap the camera icon to turn outgoing video on or off.

6. Tap “Leave call” to end the video visit.

Telehealth instructions: desktop

Follow these steps to access your video visit on a desktop. 

 Access your appointment

Change video visit settings 

Before joining the visit, you can adjust your settings. 

1. Click the camera button to turn the camera on/off. 

2. Click the microphone button to turn the microphone on/off. 

3. Click background effects to blur the background. 

4. Click the gear icon to adjust available microphones and/or speakers. 

5. A banner will display confirming all hardware tests are complete. Note: this banner will be yellow if there’s a problem. 

6. If you’d like to use a different display name, click in the display name field. Enter your desired name and it will display in the video visit. 

7. Click “Join call” to begin the video visit.

Navigate the video visit

6. Click “Leave call” to end the video visit.
