About me

  • Director, Microvascular Surgery and Education
  • Associate Vice Chair for Quality, Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery
  • Head and Neck Cancer Service Line Director, Pennsylvania Hospital

Steven B. Cannady, MD is a head and neck surgeon and serves as director of microvascular surgery for Penn Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. His clinical practice and expertise is in head and neck tumor surgery, including parotid gland, thyroid gland, skin, and mucosal cancers involving the head and neck. In addition, Dr. Cannady focuses his practice on the reconstruction of the head and neck following tumor surgery or treatments such as radiation or chemotherapy. As a reconstructive specialist, the goal of any consultation is to provide patients with the best opportunity to restore both form and function including speech and swallowing. Advances in reconstructive surgery have afforded patients, affected by head and neck cancer, the opportunity to look and feel better after their cancer is cured.

In addition, Dr. Cannady is active in performing research focused on cancer outcomes as well as functional outcomes following treatment - helping define the national discussion surrounding best practices in cancer care and reconstructive options offered to patients. He is an active member of regional and national societies, serving in leadership roles that help improve care for cancer patients, reconstructive options, and survivorship care.
