Description of Research Expertise
My research is devoted to studying the interaction of light with matter and to using light or other waves to probe the structure and properties of matter with applications to biomedical imaging and tomography. Specific areas I work on include diffuse optical tomography, transport of light in tissues, tomography with the broken-ray transform and its generalizations (applicable to X-ray imaging with the account of scattering), and associated inverse problems. I am very interested in devising various ways for solving the nonlinear inverse scattering problem, which is one of the main remaining frontiers in the field, and also in inverse problems with physical constraints. I have used numerical simulations throughout my career and it still plays a very important role in my research. I enjoy writing code and have 30 years of programming experience.
