Lorraine A.T. Boakye, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in operative and non-operative treatment of foot and ankle conditions from young adolescents to adult patients. Dr. Boakye’s expertise includes minimally invasive techniques, arthroscopy, deformity correction, complex fracture care and total ankle arthroplasty. 

Dr. Boakye grew up in Englewood, NJ, and earned her undergraduate degree in History from Yale College. She was nominated for the Senior Essay Prize and graduated with distinction in the major. She then completed her medical degree at University of Pittsburgh where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society (AOA) and the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS). She remained in Pittsburgh to complete her residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. While there, she served in numerous education and leadership roles, including administrative chief resident. She then completed her orthopedic subspecialty fellowship training in foot and ankle at Harvard/Brigham and Women’s Hospital and in Boston, Massachusetts. She is recipient of the 2023 RJOS Courage Award. 

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Boakye is active in academic research, publishing many articles, abstracts, and book chapters on Achilles tendon pathology, foot and ankle trauma, sports injuries, patient reported outcomes and sustainability in medicine. She is passionate about serving the diverse patient population of Philadelphia.

Penn Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) work together to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. Please note that patients may see an APP before an appointment with me. The APP I work with is Laura Amber Romano, PA-C.
