Kathleen Hwang, MD

I am a board-certified urologist with fellowship training in Male Reproductive and Sexual Health. I am the Director of Male Reproductive Health and Director of Men’s Health at Penn Medicine. My areas of expertise include the medical and surgical management of Male Infertility and Male Sexual Dysfunction. I work closely with Reproductive Endocrinologists to provide comprehensive and cutting-edge care to the infertile couple. I am internationally recognized as an expert in microsurgery and penile prosthetic surgery and am often asked to teach hands on microsurgical and prosthetic surgery courses at national and international meetings.

My primary research interests include spermatogonial stem cells, post transcriptional changes in sperm development, and my active laboratory is involved in research on the biology and mechanisms of toxic disruption of testicular function, the genetic basis of infertility, as well as understanding mechanisms of wound injury. I have active funding from the NICHD and am committed to translating lab bench discoveries to the clinic for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of male infertility.

I serve as an associate editor for Fertility & Sterility and Andrology Journals which are the most prominent journals to publish for areas of reproductive and sexual health. I have received numerous awards and recognition for my leadership in reproductive urology and sexual dysfunction. I am past president of the Society for Reproductive Surgeons, the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction, and the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology. My work in these societies has allowed me to advocate for Men’s Health on the broader scale and make positive change to both the education of the upcoming future generation of Men’s Health specialists but more importantly to improve all aspects of providing care to the Men’s Health Patient.
