Description of Research Expertise:

I am an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care. I have recently completed a two-year, National Research Service Award (NRSA) T-32 (5T32HL098054) training grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Because of my interest in health services research, I have used this funding opportunity to complete the Master of Science in Health Policy (MSHP) research at the University of Pennsylvania.

As a cardiac anesthesiologist, my primary career intention is to become an exceptional health services researcher in order to improve the health of patients with cardiac surgical conditions by focusing on the quality of perioperative care delivered before, during and after cardiac surgery. I have two overarching, long-term career goals. First, to use my clinical knowledge as a practicing cardiothoracic anesthesiologist to investigate the impact of intraoperative, echocardiographic, cardiac imaging technologies on cardiac surgical outcomes; a domain in which there is ample opportunity to contribute to the existing literature. Second, to become a successful, independently funded health services researcher, in order to improve outcomes in the cardiothoracic surgery patient population.
