Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport
Kevin Pan, DO, MEd; Minuette Laessig, MD; Laura DiPaolo, MD; and Geoffrey Dreher, DO
From specialists in sports medicine and family care at LG Health, this article provides resources needed to accurately diagnose and determine the severity of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs), as well as direction for screening, risk assessment, and management. A condition caused by a mismatch between energy used and energy consumed, REDs leads to low energy availability and pathological long-term outcomes when not properly treated.
Injury-related outcomes in frail geriatric trauma patients
Nathan Schlessinger; Medoza S. Ameen, MPH; Julie M. Reichert; and Lindsey L. Perea, DO
LG Health Trauma Research associates and members of the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Department conducted three retrospective studies among local geriatric patients to characterize the risks for pelvic fractures, delirium, and rib fractures. Each study compared patient populations (affected vs non-affected) and reached similar conclusions about the detriments of frailty.
A retrospective review of concomitant use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors
Alexis Jeschonnek, PharmD; Michelle Link Patterson, PharmD; Nafisa Khan, PharmD; and Jennifer I. Smith, PharmD
A team of pharmacologists performed a retrospective study at LG Health to assess frequency of concurrent or serial use of DPP-4 inhibitors and GLP-1 RAs among family practice patients, impact of use patterns on HgbA1c, and adverse events potentially due to concomitant use of the agents.
