Chester County Hospital emergency room transfer frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Chester County Hospital is sometimes at full capacity, causing long wait times for admitted patients to get an inpatient bed. Some patients who are admitted have medical conditions that can safely be cared for at another Penn Medicine hospital, such as Lancaster General Hospital, allowing them to get to an inpatient bed more quickly.

Your Chester County Hospital care team can coordinate with the specialists at Lancaster General Health to ensure you're going to a Penn Medicine facility that is fully equipped to meet your specific medical needs. This could include transfer to the Lancaster General Health Level 1 Trauma Center for advanced care, or an inpatient room.
