Engaged recovery after breast surgery

Your surgeon uses a care plan called Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS). These evidence-based steps will help you stay as healthy as possible before surgery and support better pain control, nutrition, and movement afterward.

Understanding enhanced recovery after breast surgery

Learn what to expect before and after your surgery:

  • At the hospital: Your pain will be managed through a regimen that focuses on reducing the adverse effects of some medications, including opioids. You will be encouraged to take meals out of bed and to walk as early as safely possible.
  • At home: You are encouraged to follow up with your primary care provider on a regular basis, in addition to maintaining your care with your surgeon and any other specialists involved in your care.
  • After your recovery: Remember to take our survey
