PHILADELPHIA – On Friday, alumni, donors, students, faculty, and leadership from the University of Pennsylvania and the Perelman School of Medicine will gather at the Henry A. Jordan M’62 Medical Education Center for a ceremonial ribbon cutting to officially unveil the new medical education space. The three-story, 55,000-square-foot facility is situated in the heart of the Penn Medicine campus, just steps away from the Smilow Center for Translational Research and the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine.

The building is named both in recognition of the legacy of the late Henry A. Jordan, who was a Perelman School of Medicine faculty member and alumnus, and in honor of the Jordan family’s whole-hearted support of the center.  One of the School’s most devoted alumni, Henry Jordan was a steadfast champion of Penn Medicine and its students.

Amy Gutmann, PhD, president of the University of Pennsylvania, J. Larry Jameson, MD, PhD, dean of the Perelman School of Medicine, Arthur H. Rubenstein, MBBCh, former dean of Perelman, and Gail Morrison, MD, senior vice dean of Education, will be joined by Barbara M. Jordan and the Jordan family for the ceremony. Over 500 people are expected to attend the ribbon cutting.

In addition to the naming gift from the Jordan family, gifts from over 500 alumni, faculty, staff and friends helped bring the vision for the building to fruition. The Jordan Center is among the first in the nation to fully integrate education facilities with active clinical care and research lab space—and the first major renovation to Penn Medicine’s educational facilities in more than three decades.
