Each year, the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania honor exceptional nurses practicing in the Commonwealth. This year, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health was proud to have two nurses represent the health system at the recent virtual awards gala.

Barbara Schmidt, BSN, RN, RNC-MNN, was the winner in the Clinical Practice RN category. The award honors outstanding patient care, clinical and communication skills, and compassion. Schmidt is a nurse in Couplet Care at Women & Babies Hospital.

Alyssa Livengood Waite, MHA, MSN, RN, director of nursing, WBH, was a finalist in the Nursing Administration—Executive category. The category honors nurse leaders for leadership, innovation, mentoring and knowledge of the health care needs of their communities.

“To be recognized by the Nightingale Awards is an outstanding achievement,” LG Health Chief Nursing Officer Larry Strassner said. “We are very proud of Barb and Alyssa for their extraordinary contributions to the nursing profession.”
