This January, Chester County Hospital (CCH) partnered with United Way of Chester County to honor the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day all month long with an MLK Bedding and Diaper Drive to collect sheets, pillowcases, towels, pillows, and diapers for those in need in the community.

The project was the brainchild of Jackie Felicetti, the hospital’s Chief Human Resources Officer.

The items gathered for the MLK Bedding and Diaper Drive were donated to three local agencies: Home of the Sparrow, Friends Association, and the Maternal and Child Health Consortium. These organizations help women, families, and caregivers who need support with housing, financial assistance, insurance, and food benefits.

Felicetti and her team worked feverishly to get the word out for the drive, and donations poured in. Several nurses provided a significant portion of the hospital’s total donation as part of their community service for the Professional Recognition of Initiative, Skill, and Merit (PRISM) program, a clinical ladder for nursing.

“Whenever we do a coat drive, everyone buys something for the kids, but this drive supports everyone in the family,” Felicetti explained. “Sometimes a pillow is the last thing they’ll buy themselves. That’s why we love collecting pillows because, to some, they are a luxury.”

As an added convenience, the CCH Gift Shop sold gift cards from Target, Walmart, and Bed Bath & Beyond that could be donated to the drive in lieu of actual items.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our employees for donating items that will help people in our community rebuild their lives,” said Jackie Felicetti, Chief Human Resources Officer, CCH.
