Doctors’ Day observances began in 1933, honoring Dr. Crawford Williamson Long, an alumnus of Penn’s School of Medicine, who was credited with the first use of general anesthesia. Today, National Doctors’ Day is celebrated throughout the country to recognize the contributions and dedication of physicians — their years of hard work and training and the constant demands as they balance work and family life.

This year, HUP honored physicians with morning beverages, a power bank and a voucher for lunch at the Spruce Street Café.
