Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center (PMC) has earned an “A” in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting safety, quality and value in health care.
PMC’s grade was announced November 8 as part of the Fall 2018 edition of the Hospital Safety Grade, a comprehensive rating published twice annually by The Leapfrog Group to evaluate 2,600 hospitals nationwide on how well they protect patients from preventable errors, injuries and infections.
The Leapfrog Group's peer-reviewed rating system factors in 28 separate measures from three sources: the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS); the voluntary annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey; and patient experience surveys known as HCAHPS—or Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems.
In addition to its A grade from The Leapfrog Group, PMC is recognized as a Best Regional Hospital in central New Jersey by U.S. News & World Report, ranking as a top 10 hospital in New Jersey and a top 20 hospital in the entire New York metropolitan region in the magazine's 2018-2019 hospital ratings. PMC also has achieved Magnet® status, the highest institutional recognition available for nursing excellence.
