Restrictions to patient visitors at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Hospital are currently in effect.

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania offers semi-private rooms and private accommodations to our patients. We also offer deluxe accommodations at The Pavilion at Penn Medicine. For information about rates and availability, contact Admissions at 215-662-2335.

Beauty and Grooming Services

Helen’s Hair House provides services for both men and women on the first floor of the Maloney building. Hair services are available during regular business hours and payment is expected at the time of service. Walk-ins welcome. For assistance scheduling call 215-662-2592.

Pastoral Care

Our interfaith ministers are happy to visit with you 24 hours a day. You may reach them at 215-662-2591. The interfaith chapel is located on 1 Dulles and is open 24 hours to meet your spiritual needs and for reflection and prayer. After 5 pm contact the hospital operator for the chaplain-on-call or the duty chaplain.

Patient & Family Education Center

Anyone who visits the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania may use the Patient & Family Education Center. There is no charge for using the center or viewing materials, although some classes may have a registration fee. Make yourself comfortable in our modern health library while using our resources:

  • Health magazines, pamphlets, videotapes and reference books
  • CD-ROM programs
  • Online health information(including the UPHS Health Care web site and OncoLink, the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center's world-renowned cancer resource)
  • Information on local and national support groups and agencies
  • Health education classes

The Patient & Family Education Center is located on the first floor of the Silverstein building. From the main entrance on 34th Street, take the escalator to the first floor. The center is just beyond the escalator, on the left. The address is One Silverstein Pavilion, 3400 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA. The hours are are Monday to Fridays, 9 am to 5 pm, while closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and on holidays.

Telephone & Interactive Television

A telephone is located at every bedside. Local calls are free within area codes 215, 267, 610, 484, 856, 609 and 302. All other calls require operator assistance and are charged to a home phone bill, credit card, calling card (available in the gift shop) or the call recipient (calling collect).

  • Please note: Not all 215 and 610 area code numbers are considered local. Please call 215-662-4700 for questions regarding long-distance service.
  • Phone services may be charged to a major credit card or to your home telephone bill. To order your telephone services, call 215-662-4700 and a 24-hour customer service representative can assist you.

Patients have access to a television with closed captioning free of charge. The unit secretary can provide headphones — to be used while watching TV late at night or at a high volume. Call 215-662-3900 for the repair service.
