Fertility options for male same-sex couples
Our care team helps male same-sex couples decide how they want to build their family. We’ll discuss your options for whose sperm and eggs you’ll use, as well as who will carry the pregnancy. When you’re ready to conceive a child, our specialists provide assisted reproductive services like IVF and IUI.
You may choose a gestational carrier, a person with a uterus who carries an embryo created from a donor egg and your sperm. We use IVF to transfer the embryo to the gestational carrier’s uterus. Gestational carriers have no genetic link to the baby.
You can choose a family member or friend to be a gestational carrier or select one through an agency. Penn Medicine doesn’t provide gestational carriers, but we work with agencies, legal experts, and counselors to help you have a child.
You may also choose a traditional surrogate, a person who carries an embryo created from their egg and your sperm. You may choose IUI or IVF for traditional surrogacy.
Assisted reproduction using a third party requires financial, medical, and legal considerations. Our team will help you understand all your options so you can build the family you want.
